Mariposa Community Health Center’s
Mariposa Youth Coalition – Summer Youth Institute – Health Classes
Mariposa Youth Coalition (MYC) is a student group that is part of a larger network of youth coalitions across the state called STAND. MYC educates their peers and the community on the dangers of tobacco/vape usage and generally promotes other healthy behaviors for teens. They do a lot of peer education and outreach throughout the school year as well as community service. Any teen of high school age is encouraged to join MYC!! Follow us on Instagram @mariposayouthcoalition
Summer Youth Institute (SYI) is a 7-week summer program that has been ongoing at Mariposa Community Health Center since 2002. This program trains students interested in health careers in becoming Teen Health Facilitators. They learn different topics such as teen pregnancy, mental health, drug prevention, etc. as well as leadership training that helps them develop their public speaking and teamwork skills. Students also get the opportunity to shadow our medical providers, nurses, medical assistants, lab techs, radiologists, etc. It’s a very interactive program and we encourage teens to apply every year. Teens must have completed their first year of high school and submit an application to be considered.
Health Classes: Other programs offered at Mariposa are teen pregnancy prevention classes and opioid misuse classes which are offered to youth throughout the year. Call 520-375-6050 for more information on classes.
